This year’s edition of Weft Studio concludes
This week marked the conclusion of the latest edition of Weft Studio. Over the past six months, Weft Studio artists have dedicated themselves to refining their artistic practices, weaving the threads of new projects, and forging a new, supportive, and dynamic peer group.
Led by award-winning writer and creative producer Shannon Yee, Weft Studio has played a pivotal role in providing a support framework for emerging and early-career Black artists and artists of the global majority. Since its inception in 2021, Weft Studio has been on a mission to create a platform for these visionary artists to shape their artistic practices and bring new works to life on their own terms.
Throughout this six-month journey, spanning from August 2023 to February 2024, Weft Studio thrived under the mentorship of national and international trailblazers like Carys D. Coburn, Benji Reid, Hannah Khalil, Julie McNamara, Mele Broomes, and Conor Allen, who infused the studio with fresh insights, perspectives, and inspiration. Read more here.
The latest edition of Weft Studio featured an extraordinary lineup of artists, including Clodagh Boyce, Georgie Lynch, Debora Adachi, Daranijoh Sanni (E The Artist), Shauna Harris, Karen Aguiar, Mai Ishikawa, and Matthew Sharpe. Learn more about Weft Studio and the participating artists here.
Weft Studio's commitment to nurturing talent has been made possible through the support of the Arts Council of Ireland/An Chomhairle Ealaíon, in partnership with the British Council Ireland and Community Foundation Ireland. This partnership underscores the transformative power of community-focused initiatives that empower artists and contribute to the cultural vibrancy of the arts in Ireland.
The future looks bright for this year's Weft Studio artists, and we look forward to seeing their projects come to life!
