ANNOUNCING BEYOND THE PALE AWARD

Dublin Fringe Festival, in an exciting partnership with Beyond the Pale Music & Arts Festival, is delighted to announce a new festival award Beyond the Pale Award, in recognition of outstanding performance work with the potential to transcend boundaries and thrive in a green field festival setting. The award comes with a €4000 bursary to remount work at Beyond the Pale in June 2024, bringing the winner’s work to a new audience in a spectacular camping festival environment.

Dublin Fringe Festival Director, David Francis Moore, "I am thrilled to unveil the Beyond the Pale Award. This award stands as a celebration of groundbreaking performance work that possesses the power to transcend conventional limits and flourish within a green field festival. The selected show will not only be recognised for their extraordinary artistic contribution but will also be awarded a €4000 bursary, facilitating the restaging of their work at the Beyond the Pale Festival in June 2024. This unique opportunity will enable them to forge a connection with an entirely new audience of a vibrant music festival in the heartland of Wicklow.”

Jenny Jennings, Arts Programme Director for Beyond the Pale Music & Arts Festival, adds: “As somebody who has benefitted hugely over the years from engagement with outdoor music and arts festivals, I know what a thrilling context it is to present work there. So many iconic theatre and performance pieces of recent years have begun, grown or taken off because of appearances at music festivals - where they gathered cult followings while strengthening the material. Dublin Fringe feels like a natural partner for Beyond the Pale, as both have artistry, authenticity and a wild streak of adventure at their core.”

Hundreds of artists spend thousands of hours making work for Dublin Fringe Festival each year. The extraordinary skill and talent on display is acknowledged through annual special awards to standouts. This year's festival includes three new awards for 2023; Beyond the Pale Award; PromptPad Technical Innovation Award and Solas Nua New Voices Award.
