Lara Hickey

Producer

Lara Hickey  is an award winning Irish producer based in Dublin, and holds a First Class Honours MA in Creative Production and Screen Finance from the National Film School, IADT. Lara has recently been nominated for the Galway Film Fleadh’s Bingham Ray Award at the 34th Galway Film Fleadh.

Lara produced the IFTA nominated BAINNE, directed by Jack Reynor and starring Will Poulter, in association with Sky Arts and Screen Ireland which won Best First Short at Galway Film Fleadh 2019, and that same year CYNTHIA, directed by Jack Hickey and starring Clare Dunne and Moe Dunford won the prestigious Tiernan McBride award for Best Short Drama, longlisting it for the Academy Awards.

She has since gone on to produce five more short films and had her work selected internationally at over 65 festivals including Sitges Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, Santa Barbara International Film Festival and Cleveland International Film Festival and most recently with the Screen Ireland Focus Short LAMB by Sinéad O’Loughlin, which had its World Premiere at Tribeca Film Festival in New York; and went on to win Best Screenplay at Flickers Rhode Island, the audience award at Cork International Film Festival and Best Irish Short at Dublin International Film Festival; and BURN IT ALL written & directed by Jack Hickey, which had its world premiere at the 34th Galway Film Fleadh, winning the Donal Gilligan Award for Best Cinematography and the Best Irish Short Film award at Kerry International Film Festival. Her latest short film GOOD CHIPS won the Virgin Media Discovers award, in association with Screen Ireland which had it’s world premiere at Dublin International Film Festival and was broadcast on Virgin Media One.

Lara currently has four feature films in development with Screen Ireland for her own production company, Copper Alley Productions, is producing for Element Pictures and is currently Co-Creative Director of X-POLLINATOR, with Co-director and founder Katie Holly (Blinder Films), a pioneering development initiative for female creative talent, most recently with CREATOR, an immersive residency for female, female identifying and non-binary directors, funded by Screen Ireland, the BAI, Northern Ireland Screen, BBC NI CINE scheme and Creative Europe, in association with the National Talent Academy and Bow Street Academy, Ireland’s National Screen Acting school.

Lara previously worked as an independent producer and programmer in theatre and the arts, most recently as Festival Producer on THISISPOPBABY’s WHERE WE LIVE Festival 2018 and 2020, and before that as Associate Producer at the Abbey Theatre for four years, Lara produced all national and international tours and co-productions and an extensive work of visiting companies on the Abbey and Peacock stages, including establishing partnerships with the Soho Theatre, Lyric Theatre, Headlong Theatre and the Royal Court Theatre. Previous work also includes working with Talking Shop Ensemble & Shaun Dunne, Project Arts Centre, Playgroup, The Performance Corporation, The Corn Exchange, HotForTheatre, Calipo, Dublin Fringe Festival, Dublin Theatre Festival, Cork Midsummer Festival, Galway Arts Festival and Body & Soul Festival, and trained as a producer on the Rough Magic SEEDS programme.
