Fragments of song unravel.
Stories gather.
A cocoon of sound begins to form.
Situated within an immersive sculptural cocoon installation, solo violist Joanna Mattrey performs fragments of Arabic and Irish folk songs, reshaping them into sound worlds using experimental electronic alterations, lush harmonic textures and experimental modern effects.
Inspired by her family’s history of raising silkworms and unravelling cocoons to harvest threads, this interactive work invites audiences to record their own stories in real time and hear their voices woven into the performance.
Stories of homeland, memory and resistance emerge.
Developed as part of ISSUE Project Room Residency.
