James Brown’s musical director and bandleader Sweet Charles gets on up tonight in Dublin. Sweets began playing drums with his friend Jimi Hendrix in Nashville, Tennessee and learnt guitar from Curtis Mayfield in exchange for washing his Jaguar. From this legendary genesis, Sweets continued by playing bass for Aretha Franklin, before thumping the string for the Godfather of Soul. Sweet Charles has funked it up with Al Green, Ice Cube and Bootsy Collins and tonight takes it to the bridge in Georges Dock with his 6-piece band. Special Spiegel Soul Mix by Choice Cuts will be given out on the night.
