Volunteer Call Out

Macnas “The Wild Hunt and The Sleepwalker – A Nocturnal Ballad” will open ABSOLUT Fringe 2010 in spectacular fashion. In one of Dublin’s most astounding and historic locations, The National Museum of Ireland at Collins Barracks, this outdoor event will involve more than 100 performers and thousands of spectators. After a twelve year absence, Macnas return to Dublin for this epic visual feast.

To make it happen, we need you!

Want to get involved?

Macnas rely on community participation for all their events; from performers to stage managers, everyone is a volunteer.

ABSOLUT Fringe and Macnas are looking for experienced practitioners in the event arena to fill stage manager, stewarding and performance roles. Commitment levels will vary depending on your availability and skill.

Dates and Times:

Friday 10th September / 5PM – 9PM (rehearsal)

Saturday 11th September / 5PM – 10PM (performance)

Who we need and the skills you’ll have:

Stage Managers and Stewards

Communication and team management skills, very good initiative

Fire Stewards

Basic knowledge of emergency procedures, excellent communication skills, very good initiative

Performers

Very minimal performance or stage experience is required, but you must be able to follow directions and be enthusiastic in all weather conditions!

Float Operators

General interest in performance, eager to be involved

Icelandic Music Weekend Featuring Amiina, Ólöf Arnalds and FM Belfast

An extra special weekend of music from Iceland, featuring the only full length gig by Amiina in ireland this year, the glacially cool synth pop energy of FM Belfast and the enchanting, ethereal Björk collaborater Ólöf Arnalds.

Taylor Mac

Promising to be a concert unlike any other, the internationally praised performer “seduces you, breaks your heart, patches it back up again and sews sequins along the scars” (Irish Times). His legion of fans might not all fit into this low capacity gig – get in early.

Camille O’Sullivan

An extraordinarily rare intimate performance by this festival favourite and international star, tickets for which are already flying out the door. In this raw, acoustic set, Camille delves into the repertoires of Jacques Brel, Nick Cave, Tom Waits and Radiohead.

Pajama Men

Did you love La Clique? Well get ready for The Pajama Men, bringing the show The Times called “One of the most dazzling displays of comedy theatre… ever” to Dublin. Their dizzying mix of smart slapstick, artful improvisation and extraordinary theatrical skill collides with side splitting humour – we guarantee you, it’s the best fun you’ll have this September.

Miranda Sings

What to say about this internet sensation? 8m views on YouTube. A legion of devoted Mirfanda’s (fans) and a slew of haters (who just won’t back off). Epileptic eyebrows and lips that don’t stop. Miranda is like Crystal Swing’s cousin, but with more than 15 minutes. Watch the video to the left and decide for yourself: Mirfanda or hater?

Cactus: The Seduction

“Best of Fest Award”- Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver Fringe Festivals.

Jonno Katz, in a show directed by Mark Chavez of the Pajama Men, presents side-splitting comedy that is both an irresistible love story and a carnival of boundless imaginings. “Deserves more exclamation marks than the paper will allow. MEDEA

SIREN PRODUCTIONS present Euripides’ MEDEA in a new translation by Robin Robertson. Directed by Selina Cartmell, this utterly contemporary take on a classic will haunt you forever. Blurring the boundaries between theatre and live installation, MEDEA features Eileen Walsh as Medea, with Olwen Fouéré, Stuart Graham, Ronan Leahy, Eleanor methven and Bryan Murray. This is already selling fast so book early.

A lecture style performance about hope, travel, oil, weather, war and sustainability. a smith, an associate of Tim Crouch, co-directed the award winning plays ‘An Oak Tree’,  ‘England’ and most recently, ‘The Author’. Quietly contemplative and persuasively subtle, it will leave you thinking about the global impact of the small choices you make daily.

Jerk

Róise Goan, Director of the Festival, programmed this show immediately after seeing in Berlin. In her words: “It is the most gripping, shocking, gruesome and innovative theatre piece I’ve experienced in years. You must see it’. Find out why by clicking through.

The Ballet Ruse

Once upon a time, two budding ballerinas battled for perfection in the sugar-coated world of Ballet. This tongue in cheek glimpse into the fascinating background of two of Ireland’s leading contemporary dancers is a raw, honest lunchtime show without sandwiches.

Listowel Syndrome

Emma Martin tackles a subject matter rooted deep in the Irish consciousness in this dark tale of small-town solidarity. Told through dance, text, song and live music, this fable is utterly of the moment.
