That’s About The Size of It

THIS SHOW IS NOW FINISHED
Niamh says that science is everywhere, even in public parks. She says that we are all composed of atoms; hundreds of thousands of trillions of atoms. And empty space.

If we imagine a single atom being the size of the park, then as we lie on the grass we hold in our hands the nucleus, about the size of one grain of rice. Apart from electrons, there is nothing else. Just space. 99% empty space.

In this intimate encounter, told through multi-media, movement, memories and the number 9, Niamh Shaw, actor and scientist, questions our place in the world and reminds us that all humans are curious. And empty space.

The universe is in your hands.

A Show in a Bag Production.

Show in a Bag is an artist development initiative of Dublin Fringe Festival, Fishamble: The New Play Company and Irish Theatre Institute to resource theatre makers and actors.

Co-creator/Director Úna Kavanagh

“..Shaw is passionate about her subject…and does a beautiful job of poignantly, and yes, scientifically, exploring her own life, which in turn invites us to explore the roads we ourselves have not taken.”
*** ITM

“her musings are fascinating and a lot more philosophical then one may expect in a tiny dark room at the top of a café in the middle of the Fringe….. it will stretch your intellect and your imagination.”
*** Entertainment .ie

“Part-lecture, part-performance, part-storytelling…this one should grow legs. At the very least, you will leave with a better understanding of string theory.”
*** The Sunday Times

“…..The audience leaves with something new: a rational understanding of the God particle….Shaw and co-creator Una Kavanagh stay true to atomic principles..”
*** The Irish Times
